Senghenydd applied pressure on the Abergavenny line for a full five minutes but a strong Abergavenny defence kept them out. Senghenydd did open the scoring on 17 minutes when a monster penalty from Justin Loveridge sailed over between the uprights. Kicking from the half way line and with the ball towards the right hand touch line the distance looked a good 57 - 60 meters and the ball hit the cross bar and over for a 3 nil lead to Senghenydd.
Things got better for the Saints 10 minutes later when winger Lloyd Davies touched down for his first of two tries. The ball was kicked deep into the Abergavenny half and good recycling by Julian Short and Chris Sargent saw the ball pass along Senghenydd's back line to the left winger who touched down near the posts. Loveridge stepped up to convert and give Senghenydd a 10 - 0 lead. A yellow card for Chris Sargent for killing the ball saw Sengheynydd down to 14 men with 6 minutes before half time and Abergavenny took full advantage of the situation when they scored two converted tries in the next 2 minutes. The first was from an Abergavenny set move from the base of the scrum and the second was from good fortune when an awkward bouncing ball caught out the Senghenydd defence with the outside centre for Abergavenny catching and scoring under the posts. To give the away side a 10 - 14 advantage at half time.

Half time score: Senghenydd 10 - 14 Abergavenny

Senghenydd had their own good fortune one minute after the re-start when winger Lloyd Davies intercepted on the half way line and raced away to touch down unopposed for his and Senghenydd's second try. Justin Loveridge converting to give Senghenydd a 3 point lead. Back came Abergavenny 3 minutes later when they took the scrum against the head in Senghenydd's 22 and scoring corner for their third converted try. Senghenydd made 2 changes on the hour mark with the excellent Julian Short coming off, citing a lack of match fitness after 2 years out and winger Lloyd Davies sustaining an ankle injury and these were replaced by Gareth Selway and Daniel John respectively.
Abergavenny scored their fourth and fifth try in a good 5 minute spell to leave Senghenydd trailing by 17 -33.

Despite good attacking play by Senghenydd's Man of the Match Jonny Watters and scrum half Luke Morgan the home side were unable to add any more points in the second half. In fact it was the away side who added to their total with 2 more tries and a final score of Senghenydd 17 - 45 Abergavenny.
With the season rapidly coming to an end their fate is in their own hands as Senghenydd meet New Tredegar and Pontllanfraith in three of the remaining five fixtures.

Full time score: Senghenydd 17 - 45 Abergavenny

Senghenydd vs Abergavenny
Match report by Philip Short

Date: 05/04/08
Kick off: 2:30pm
Weather: Fair
Senghenydd Man of the Match: Jonny Watters

The home side started well against an Abergavenny side who are in second place in the league and only one point behind leaders Brynmawr. Playing with the wind behind them, Senghenydd were pinning Abergavenny in their own half thanks to the boot of Justin Loveridge, but on too many occasions the ball went over the dead ball line or straight into touch negating any advantage that they were seeking.
